Dia Star

“I paint on any surface that can hold still. I photograph those around me. I art direct collaborative efforts featuring my own and other’s bodies. I also curate themed art shows for groups of my contemporaries. I enjoy the support of my social network fans online and organize the Atlanta Art Meetup.”

Expression is a way of life for Dia Starr. She captures colors and shapes. Cameras, paintbrushes, air guns, and computer design program are her current weapons of choice. Any media could be her newest design tool. She makes the visual and textural elements dance for the viewer. Evoking emotion is what makes her tick.

In high school, Dia Starr did a lot of theatre work and studied dance. The costuming aspects have emblazoned their mark on her work. This flamboyance and drama led her to muse work for fellow artists during and after her studies at Oglethorpe University. Body painters from around the world hired her as model. The human canvas concept grew her. After years of working as a body model, she ventured into bodypainting in the past two years.

Dia Starr founded BSD Creative. This organization allows Dia Starr to utilize her creative talents for both fine arts and commercial projects. The BSD Creative portfolio showcases her evolution into a mixed media artist. Oil paintings dwell upon literal qualities with an emphasis on lean to fat color layering. Photographs convey cinematic influences with a renewed interest in portraiture. She savors the essence of a subject’s natural body language. Her round acrylic paintings are a return to bold concentration on color and shape.

Dia Starr has created bodypaint designs for her own and others bodies. Her “Carnival” piece is a tribute to vintage pin up illustration which she loves. Dia Starr’s direction of collaborative efforts allows her to utilize many talents at once. For “Delicious”, she commissioned fellow painter Jay Marsh to paint her concept on her own body. She taught him the “high gloss metallic” technique. She recruited photographer Gemi Studios to shoot the effort. The finished product was part of an erotic art fundraiser for a local non-profit arts organization. It was on the front of the “Hedonism” flyer.

Dia Starr currently organizes the Atlanta Art Meetup Group. This group seeks to create a dialogue between many facets of the art community. It welcomes anyone who loves art: working artists, art collectors, hobbyists, art enthusiasts, and students. They promote local art events and post artist calls for members. The Atlanta Art Meetup brings members as well as guests out to openings and workshops. They are currently expanding their 500+ member base to include more performers, musicians, dancers, and poets.
